Today is the 30th of the month and as part of my commitment to myself, it marks one of the three days each month I publish a blogpost. I have so many things that I want to write about, but find myself totally uninspired. My wife picked up on it and seeing that I wasn’t in a mental state to inspire others, she shared this nice list of quotes to get me out of my funk. It worked! Hope it helps you get your mind right should you be in need of drawing inspiration from others…
“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” -Rosalynn Carter
“Management is doing things right: leadership doing the right things.” -Peter F. Drucker
“The key to leadership today is influence, not authority.” -Kenneth Blanchard
“A genuine leader is not a teacher of consensus but a molder of consensus.” -Martin Luther King
“We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change.” -Sheryl Sandberg
“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets people to do the greatest things.” -Ronald Reagan
“Remember the difference between a boss and a leader: a boss says ‘Go!’ a leader says ‘Let’s go!'” -E.M. Kelly
“You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.” -Mother Teresa
“It only takes a second to do better.” -Sandra Dodd
“Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.” -Steve Jobs
“When we help ourselves, we find moments of happiness. When we help others, we find lasting fulfillment.” -Simon Sinek
“In my view, no subject is ever finished. No concept is sealed off from other concepts. Knowledge is continuous: ideas flow.” -Salman Khan
“Never miss an opportunity to be fabulous.” -Tina Seelig
- Do any of these speak to you?
- Where do you draw inspiration?
- Who might benefit from hearing one of your favorite quotes?
Love the Mother Theresa quote!
Leaders become uncomfortable and even insecure with folks on their team (or elsewhere) who can build products or accomplish tasks they can’t even understand or perform themselves. They would rather NOT inquire about it or disregard it ENTIRELY instead of being inquisitive to learn more and reward great work, simply because they can’t understand it. Sometimes its ego, sometimes they dont want to admit to others the limits of their knowledge. Regardless, it leads to an inability to mentor, an inability to hold a team together, an inability to screen for talent, and an inability to accomplish what others have deemed impossible. I see it all of the time.
Great leaders are lifetime learners who get excited to supplement themselves with people who do and think differently versus those who do and think the same.
